Old School RuneScape Quick Tip

A lot of people don’t know this, but in Old School RuneScape, if you are looking to collect pure essence, it is faster to kill Banshees (don’t forget earmuffs) than to mine the essence!

Old School RuneScape God Wars Dungeon

Ever since Old School RuneScape released, God Wars Dungeon has been a hot button issue.  It seems everyone has an opinion on it and everyone is willing to share their opinion on it.

Most people I have talked to about bringing God Wars to Old School RuneScape have fallen into a few different camps.

I don’t want God Wars in Old School RuneScape

These people generally just do not want God Wars at all.  Usually these are people who are very picky about what updates actually happen to the point where they don’t want anything at all to change.  I find these people usually wish Old School RuneScape would stay just the way it was when it released with no changes.  Also, a lot of these people are PKers who don’t want Godswords or God Wars armors to get into the wilderness and cause imbalance.

I want God Wars in Old School RuneScape just the way it is

These people tend to just want God Wars to be brought over just the way it was on release with zero changes.  In general, the people I have talked to with this opinion are people who either started playing RuneScape right when God Wars came out, people who started shortly after, or people who really only played seriously around the time God Wars released.  They also tend to be people who were only successful PKing once godswords came out.
I want God Wars in Old School RuneScape with some changes
This is the camp I fall into.  I was a fan of God Wars because it gave us new PVE content to do since Kalphite Queen, King Black Dragon, and Dagannoth Kings were getting old.  It brought a ton of new content for us to mess with and each boss worked differently.  Most people who I’ve seen fall into this camp are more experienced players.  These are usually people who played a lot before and after God Wars release and would like Old School RuneScape to have the benefits of God Wars without the drawbacks.

What changes should be made for God Wars in Old School RuneScape?

Personally, I would like to see changes for special attacks for godswords.  Either make the special attacks weaker or change a couple of them, Saradomin and Armadyl specifically.  The special attack for Saradomin makes Guthan’s armor useless.  Removing the healing effect but keeping the prayer restoration is fine.  Armadyl’s special attack is just overpowered.  A single Armadyl special attack can potentially do 3/4 of a maxed player’s health.  Old School RuneScape doesn’t have hitpoint boosts, so this is a little ridiculous.  Godswords were the main reason for power creep happening before the changes to HP.

Old School RuneScape Updates: Do you want them or not?

Old School RuneScape Updates

The subject of Old School RuneScape updates seems to be a contentious one.  People argue this all the time, and both sides seem pretty firm in their beliefs.  Some people really want updates to the game to keep it fresh.  Some people want Jagex to just leave Old School RuneScape alone and not update anything.

Personally, the way I feel about this is that updates should definitely happen and I think the current system is working for the most part.  Jagex is giving us options for Old School RuneScape and the updates have to be voted in by a 75% majority or they don’t happen.  I think this is ultimately the most fair way of doing it.  If 75% of the player base wants a specific update, that small minority should not be holding back what people want.

Old School RuneScape has done very well so far with the updates that have happened.  It has not become as easy as EOC and it has definitely not been much of  departure from the original game.  If the game is never updated, it will eventually die out because people will do all there is to do eventually.  Not wanting any updates to Old School RuneScape is very shortsighted.

Jagex has been toying with the idea of original content being added to Old School RuneScape which isn’t just one of the updates from the last 6 years.  I love this idea and I think it will lend some more longevity to the game.  I would love to see new items, bosses, minigames, and possibly even quests.  As long as 75% of Old School RuneScape’s players approve, I don’t see why it would be an issue.

I understand that some people really want the game to stay as it is, but realistically if you expect the game to never change, then people will get bored with Old School RuneScape.

How do you feel on the subject?

Old School RuneScape: Rares are coming! Here’s how to get them.

Tagged as , , , ,

Before I get started on my post about Old School RuneScape, I wanted to apologize for the lack of updates on this website.  There is some major work underway for 07scape as I recently refocused myself on creating content.  Be sure to keep coming back and checking on us. :)  I am planning a major redesign of the site as well as some new features that will hopefully come about soon.

Rares in Old School RuneScape

Now on to the main focus on this post…rares in Old School RuneScape!

Jagex held a couple of polls recently with regard to rares and their introduction into Old School RuneScape.  After it all, it appears that we will be getting the old holiday items back and that they will indeed be tradable.  Whether this is good news or not really depends on personal preference, but there’s no denying that it’s definitely exciting to be able to have rares in Old School RuneScape again.

When OSRS launched, a lot of people were curious if we’d ever get party hats, masks, etc.  And early on, it didn’t really look that way.  It looks like these things will be distributed by random drops initially, and then will be available again when their respective holiday rolls around via an event.

Over the next few weeks in Old School RuneScape you should be on the lookout for the new rares!  If you don’t get one, don’t fret because you’ll have another chance to get them soon.  These events will happen around Christmas, Halloween, and Easter presumably.

I for one am super excited about the idea of rares returning and can’t wait to get my hands on them!

If you’re looking to go rare hunting, you can reference this Old School RuneScape forum post for a list of the locations in which rares are known to spawn.

Starting Out

So, here we are, the tutorial for Barbarian Assault. You MUST go through the entire thing to play Barbarian Assault. A few people pay attention through this, but most like to just go through it as fast as they can and get on with the game. Talk to Captain Cain (don’t right-click and choose tutorial, it won’t work) and go through the tutorial. head on down the ladder, and now you have a choice.

Barbarian Assault is split into 11 rooms, 10 are numbered, one just has a big fat arrow in it. The arrow room is a “quick-start” type room. you can go in this room no matter what wave you are on, and choose your role, or choose to be any role. once there is at least one attacker, defender, collector, and healer in the room, plus one extra person of any role, wave 1 will start.

If you wish to start on a chosen team, go all the way to the end, take a left, and enter room 1. You can now either take a scroll from the table and make your own team, or join someone else’s. To make a team, take a scroll from the table, set the role you wish on it, then use it on other players to add them. when you have 5 players on your scroll, enter through the ladder. Get either 2 attackers, 2 healers or 2 defenders. At wave 7+ you should have 2 healers, unless your healer is level 5.

To join someone else’s team, say your role and wait for someone to use their scroll on you. You will get a screen somewhat like this:

Select the role you wish to be then click accept. if a role is darkened, there are already enough people in that role, and you cannot be that role for this game of Barbarian Assault.

In Game

General(in any role):

On the top-right corner of your game screen, you will see your current wave, what action to do, what to call on your horn, and who you’re calling for. this action to do will not show up if whoever is calling for you does not call, so make sure you call ASAP after it changes. You will be able to see what role everyone is by the little ring around them. The horn of glory shows you a list of everyone’s role and what action they should make, this way you can call for everyone in case someone is not calling. The egg launcher shoots explosive, poison, and stun eggs. Explosive eggs will deal 3 damage. Poison deal 1 damage. Stun eggs stop the targeted penance from moving or doing anything, as well as making it so you are unable to do anything to them besides shoot eggs at them, so don’t use stun.

Honour points are awarded after each game according to how well everyone does their job. When you do something incorrect or badly you will lose points, but you can only lose up to 10 points for each thing.

When you score points or lose points it will affect your whole team. So if you gain 4 points, your whole team gains 4 points, and you gain 4 points on top of that. Individual scoring is explained after each role.

Attacker Role

When the wave begins, call for the collector, then run north. Set your attack once the collector calls, then use your specs on the fighters or the rangers. Make sure to always be watching your action icon for when it changes, and if your collector isn’t calling, just wait until he does. This will mean up to 20 extra points for you, and up to 10 for your team. If you do an incorrect attack, you will take 2 damage as well as costing your team points. Max lost points is 10, which means your whole team loses 10 points and you lose 10 points on top of that, so you lose 20. After you finish all your penance I’d suggest going to glory horn just so whoever needs to finish gets their calls quickly. You can also go to egg launcher, but only use eggs on runners, as it doesn’t even help on anything else.

Scoring for Attacker

Incorrect attacks make you lose points, the first doesn’t make you lose a point, but all others will, up to -10 pts.
Fighters killed give you points, one less than amount killed is points gained. So 5 killed = 4 pts, 8 killed = 7 pts
Rangers killed give you points, same as fighters killed
Nothing else affects points.

Collector Role

When the wave begins, call for the attacker, then run north. Wait until the action changes before you pick up eggs, because sometimes by the time you get to an egg it will change, and explode on you. Collector is very easy, just try and get the right eggs every time. The more eggs you collect the more points you get. If you are full on eggs, just destroy some, starting with blue eggs, then green, then red. You can get lots more points if you just get rid of some eggs. Collect until there are no eggs or until the wave is done, don’t forget to refill the egg hopper though!

Scoring for Collector
You get points by eggs collected. Making an egg explode is like picking up a negative egg. You get 1 point for every 5 eggs collected, so if you collect 20, that’s 4 points for the team and 4 points for you, so 8 points for you that you wouldn’t get if you did nothing.

Defender Role

This is a more challenging role, and can be quite annoying. When the wave begins, call for the healer, then click the Defender Item Machine. Run north, to the west (left) of the hill with launcher on it, then drop the bait just a bit above it, and over at the trap to the east of the hill. After you’ve gotten rid of some bait, go grab a hammer and log from the respawn in the middle northern part of the room. For wave 1, you don’t need hammer and logs, but you will need logs when there are more runners. Use the logs to fix the trap after it has been broken by runners. If all else fails, you can use eggs to kill your runners. Don’t use eggs on anything else though.

Scoring for Defender
Runners killed give points.
Runners that get away and go through the cave give -3 points. so, it only takes 4 runners getting through for you to lose the max of 10 points.

Healer Role

The healer role is a very important role, and you must be on top of things. When the wave starts, call for the defender, then click the healer item machine, then use the healing vial with the pool, and run north. Use the correct poison packs with healers (use 1 on each) and heal players when they get low health. At level 1, you heal 10 hitpoints, level 2 you heal 15, 3=20, 4=25, and 5 = 35. Depending on your healer level, you should heal them as they get lower, at level 1 just heal them as much as you can, but by level 5 you can wait til they get pretty low to heal them.

Scoring for Healer

Healers killed give points, one less point than healers killed, same as fighters and rangers.
You also get points for however many hitpoints you heal during the game.

Old School RuneScape Clan Information

It’s been a while since I have updated here I know.  Old School RuneScape has definitely had me distracted, haha.  It has a lot do with me starting an Old School RuneScape clan as well.

In the time since Old School RuneScape came out, I started a community clan called Renaissance with a bunch of old friends.  We are a Old School RuneScape clan looking to build our ranks so we can eventually get into PKing at East Drags, Portals, etc.

Come join us at http://renaissance.07scape.net

Renaissance Old School RuneScape Clan

We do not currently have any requirements to join other than being a cool person and not being a douche. :)

Feel free to check us out and if you have any questions, email me at admin@07scape.net

07Scape will eventually be updated and I plan to make some HUGE changes and move it off of just a basic WordPress site into a full fledged fan site too.  Maybe even a wiki.

In the mean time, check out my Old School RuneScape clan and maybe even join!  We’d love to have you!

RuneScape Quests That Require Little or Few Skills

Today I took the time to put together a list of all the quests in RuneScape that:

A) Are doable with little or no skills and
B) Provide XP in a skill for completion.

Quests in RuneScape are some of the best ways to gain XP at low levels because you can skip a lot of levels.  For example, the Waterfall quest will get you to about 30 attack and strength.  Using these will give you a nice boost to get yourself ready for your future plans.  Especially the combat quests which save a lot of the headache of dealing with low hits or constant zeros.

Here’s the list of quests.  Have fun with Old School RuneScape!  You can access RuneHQ’s old quest guides here.

RuneScape Quests That Require Few or No Skills

Waterfall Quest – 13,750 Strength & Attack XP
Cook’s Assistant – 300 Cooking XP
Doric’s Quest – 1300 mining XP
Imp Catcher – 875 Magic XP
Witch’s Potion – 325 Magic XP
Goblin Diplomacy – 200 Crafting XP
Sheep Shearer – 150 Crafting XP
The Restless Ghost – 1125 Prayer XP
Vampire Slayer – 4825 Attack XP
A Soul’s Bane – 500 Defence & HP XP
Plague City – 2425 Mining XP
Biohazard – 1250 thieving XP
Dwarf Cannon – 750 Crafting XP
Death Plateau – 3k attack XP
Fishing Contest – 2437-3225 Fishing XP (depends on your current XP)
Gertrude’s Cat – 1525 Cooking XP
Hazeel Cult – 1500 thieving XP
Jungle Potion – 775 Herblore XP
Monk’s Friend – 2000 Woodcutting XP
Murder Mystery – 1406 Crafting XP

Whew, I think that’s all.  If I missed any, just let me know and I will go back and add it.

Also, on a side note, during the time of writing, we passed the 250,000 vote goal.  Looks like Old School RuneScape is only going to be $5 extra right now.  March on to 500,000!  Vote on the RuneScape website.

Old School RuneScape Release Date Announced!

Jagex has definitely picked up the pace now.  They announced yesterday that Old School RuneScape will be released this Friday, the 22nd! This is pretty awesome news for all of us who were excited to get into the game as fast as possible.

It seems that Jagex is really pushing this now and letting us have early access to Old School RuneScape is a good way to push the votes up significantly.  As of the time of this writing the vote counter is at just a little under 233,000 and climbing steadily at anywhere between 10 and 20 votes per minute.

After early access comes out, the vote count for Old School RuneScape might get pushed even higher as more people pay for membership to vote and get the free month of Old School RuneScape.

If you have already voted, you will be granted a free month of membership to Old School RuneScape which will expire on March 31st.

Old School RuneScape’s Release: What to Expect

Expect things to be a little bit hairy on the first couple of days, with the team working out glitches and bugs as things progress.  It seems Jagex was mostly focused on getting the product out as quickly as possible, and so they have warned players that there might be hiccups in the beginning.  Jagex mods will also be joining players in game to celebrate the launch of Old School RuneScape. Perhaps once the early access period starts, we can hope to pass the 500,000 mark so that we might get updates. Jagex have already promised a team of developers if we reach 500,000.

Tell all your friends that Old School RuneScape is back and convince them to buy members (come on, it’s only 8 bucks!) and go vote!  If we reach 500,000 by the 1st, membership prices won’t increase and everyone will have access to both games!

Jagex did a Q&A session on the forums and answered many great questions about the future of Old School RuneScape.  Check it out here.

Get your pickaxes (or swords or hatchets or whatever) ready, everyone!
